Create and Edit a Custom Catalogue
Custom catalogues are created using any ISBNs that have already been published in any seasonal catalogue, including trade-only catalogues. You can think of it as building a playlist — just add the items you want, in the order you want them, which you can save and optionally share.
Custom catalogues can be created for specific recipients (buyers, media, internal staff, etc.) or can be made available to anyone who has the link. Custom catalogues with specific recipients can only be viewed by the catalogue's creator and the recipient(s). These catalogues are not displayed on the CataList home page, nor will they be listed on your Publisher Page. Instead, they will be listed on My Page under the Custom Catalogues tab (for creators) or the Received Catalogues tab (for recipients).
Custom catalogues that are open to all users can optionally be displayed on your account's Publisher Page. Anyone who has the link to it will be able to view the catalogue, even if they are not signed in to CataList.
Create a custom catalogue
There are three ways to create a custom catalogue:
Create a copy of any catalogue as a custom catalogue from the catalogue toolbar
Create custom catalogues using the “Add to Catalogue” buttons
Create from My Page
Click on any image to view at full size.
Under the Catalogue Creation menu on My Page, click New Custom Catalogue.
Give your catalogue a name. The name must be unique to your account.
Set editorial permissions to Collaborative if you want your colleagues to view and edit this catalogue. Learn more about collaborative custom catalogues.
Add the list of ISBNs that you want to include in your custom catalogue. You have two (three, if you’re a publisher) methods of adding ISBNs:
Select — If you are a publisher and have catalogues published, you can select titles from existing catalogues to start your new one.
Type — All users can paste in a list of ISBNs.
Upload — All users can upload a list of ISBNs in an Excel file (do not include headers in the file and ensure that the ISBNs are in the first column).
Click Next.
When the system confirms your ISBN count, click Continue.
When prompted to select recipients for the catalogue, you have two options:
Select “Make available to everyone” if you'd like anyone with the catalogue link to be able to access your catalogue.
Select “Specific Recipients Only” if you want to create a private custom catalogue that can only be seen by specific people. Recipients can be added using the autocomplete box for the CataList directory. You can add contact lists with email addresses to the recipients as well.
Click Save to create your catalogue in Draft status. Note that recipients cannot access the custom catalogue until you publish it fully.
Create from the catalogue toolbar
You can also create a custom catalogue from the catalogue toolbar.
Click the Create Custom Catalogue icon located in any catalogue’s toolbar. This launches the Create Catalogue form, with the list of ISBNs pre-populated for you.
Follow the on-screen instructions to create the catalogue.
Create using the “Add to catalogue” buttons
The Copy and Move buttons are available in catalogue views, while the “Add to catalogue” button is available in search results views and title detail pages. All three buttons allow you to create new custom catalogues without leaving your current page. Any titles that you select during this process are pre-added to your new custom catalogue. Learn more about quick editing tools in the next section.
Use the following steps to create a new custom catalogue using the Copy, Move, or “Add to catalogue” buttons.
Click the action button for the title. The catalogue selection dialog displays.
(Optional) If you are working in a custom catalogue, select or deselect the checkbox “Include suggested orders with copied titles.”
Click “Create a new custom catalogue.”
Enter the name of the name field, then click Create Catalogue.
Your new catalogue is created with your selected titles pre-added. You can continue adding titles to this catalogue, or to other catalogues as needed.
When viewing your search results using the grid view, use the checkboxes to select all or a specific set of titles. Once your title(s) are chosen, click Add to Catalogue to add titles to an existing catalogue or start a new one.
Edit a custom catalogue
Custom catalogues in your account can be edited whether they are in Draft or Published status. While private catalogues can only be edited by the creator, collaborative catalogues can be edited by anyone in the account. Account Managers, however, can edit any private or collaborative custom catalogues that were created in the company’s account. Learn more about user permissions for custom catalogues.
Quick actions
Quick actions are available directly in the catalogue’s thumbnail, scroll, and grid views. Use the checkbox next to a title to act on multiple titles at once.
There are three possible quick actions that you can take in custom catalogues: copy, move, and delete.
Copy
When you’re logged in, you can copy a title from any catalogue to your own custom catalogue. If you’re working in a custom catalogue, you can copy the title’s suggested order with the title to your selected custom catalogue.
Move
When you’re logged in and viewing a custom catalogue that you have access to edit, you can move the titles to another catalogue. You can move the title’s suggested order with the title to your selected custom catalogue.
The move action is only available in custom catalogues.
Delete
When you’re logged in, you can delete titles from catalogues that you have access to edit.
The delete action deletes the title from the catalogue, not CataList. If you are a publisher and wish to remove your title fully from CataList, see Removing titles from CataList.
Edit catalogue information
Edit Info
The Edit Info tab allows you to:
Change the name of the custom catalogue
Change the editorial permissions
Add additional ISBNs
Add cover images, front matter, and end pages
Assign tags to the catalogue (Tags are labels that you can apply to help organize your catalogues and make them easier to find later. Learn more about how to use tags in CataList.)
Click Save to either save your changes or proceed to the next step, if you are adding ISBNs to the catalogue.
Organize Catalogue
Edit Recipients
The Edit Recipients tab allows the creator of the custom catalogue to add or remove custom catalogue recipients with existing CataList accounts. This allows creators to control who can view the catalogue. When a recipient is added to a custom catalogue that has already been published, the system will prompt you to confirm whether you want to send out a new catalogue notification to the new recipient(s).
Select Recipients Only — Select this option if you want only the contacts you added to have access to view this catalogue.
Make this catalogue available to all CataList users — This option is available to Publisher-type accounts only. Select this option if you want the catalogue to be accessible to all users. If you select this option, you can choose to also display this catalogue's link on your Publisher Page.
Suggest recipients on new shared notes — If you are specifying recipients on the catalogue, you can also select the option to automatically suggest the catalogue recipients on new notes that you share while working in the catalogue. This will automatically populate the catalogue recipient list into the note recipient list any time you enter a note and click the Share option. You will then have the opportunity to add or remove from the suggested recipients – single users or contact lists – before finalizing the shared note.
Add Contacts — Add your distribution lists or individual contacts. If the contact is in the CataList directory, their name will display in the dropdown.
If you regularly share catalogues with groups of people, or if you want to share catalogues with people who have not opted in to the CataList directory, you can use the Contact List feature to add new contacts and build distribution lists. More about using Contact Lists.
Publish your catalogue
To publish any custom catalogue, go to the Publish & Send tab, and click Publish Now.
Once you have successfully published your custom catalogue to CataList, the catalogue will appear in your recipients' Received Catalogues tab and will be available for viewing. Custom catalogues can still be edited after they have been published.
If you have made your catalogue available to everyone and have not tied it to any specific recipients, automated emails will not be generated when you publish the catalogue.
