Merge Request FAQs

Q. Why can’t I include an ISBN with a past publishing date?

Answer

am I not allowed to select certain ISBNs as the Primary ISBN?

A. If there is no bubble to select a Primary ISBN in the “Primary ISBN” column, that’s because the ISBN does not have bibliographic data. You can add the data yourself through SalesData. Log in to SalesData, search the ISBN, click “Report bibliographic errors” and fill in the missing data on the provided form. After your correction has been approved, your ISBN will be eligible to be selected as the Primary ISBN.

Q. Neither of my ISBNs have bibliographic data, and therefore I can’t select a Primary ISBN. What should I do?

A. Similar to the above, you will first need to update the bibliographic SalesData of at least one of the ISBNs to move forward. Log in to SalesData, search the ISBN, click “Report bibliographic errors” and fill in the missing data on the provided form. After your correction has been approved, your ISBN will be eligible to be selected as the Primary ISBN.

A. You cannot make a change to a submitted Merge Request. Instead, you will have to delete the existing approved Merge by clicking “View/Edit” on the View Merge Requests page, and then clicking “Delete”. After the request has been deleted, you can then resubmit it with the new ISBN grouping.

  • The same format / binding

Suppression Request FAQs

Q. How should I pick my Suppression Date?

Answer - must be future, and the rules of a suppression date

A. The Suppression Date you choose will indicate the first week the title will be eligible to appear on Media Bestseller Lists, if sales are high enough to make the cutoff for the list. It will not be eligible until after the Suppression Date.

For example, if an ISBN’s given suppression date was February 21, 2023:

The ISBN would be suppressed for Media Bestseller Lists using data from weeks-ending January 29, February 5, February 12 and February 19.

Bestseller Lists using data from Week-ending February 26 would be the first week where the ISBN is no longer suppressed (marked in green)

Media Bestseller Lists are generated based on data from the prior week. Lists published the week of February 27th-March 5th will use sales data for the week of February 20-26.

Why has my Q. How can I make a change to a submitted Suppression Request been rejected?

Answer

How can I

A. You cannot make a change to a submitted Suppression RequestAnswer. Instead, you will have to delete the existing approved Suppression by clicking “View/Edit” on the View Suppressed ISBNs page, and then clicking “Delete”. After the request has been deleted, you can then resubmit it with the new Suppression Date.

Q. If I add a book to a suppression list, would any sales logged before that date get rolled into the first week of sales?

A. No, pre-sales do not get rolled forward. In a Suppression Requests, the title is just prevented from appearing on Bestseller Lists before the selected suppression date.

Q. If I merge 2 ISBNs and want to suppress them from the media bestseller lists as well, do I have to submit suppression requests for both ISBNs?

A. At the very least you should submit a suppression request for the primary ISBN, as noted in your merge request. However, we also recommend that you submit suppression requests for both ISBNs so that all records are matched and up-to-date.
