Quick Search Improvements

The latest SalesData release includes new features in the Quick Search results page, designed to help users narrow down their results even further and to use those results to directly build other reports in SalesData and LibraryData.

New Column Options and Column Customization

To help you better find the titles you’re looking for in Quick Search results, we’ve added new column options based on feedback from users. You can still view columns for ISBN, Title, Subtitle, Series, Contributor(s), CDN contributor identifier, Publisher, Pub. Date, Format, Current Week Units Sold, and Lifetime Units Sold. Now, however, you can view additional columns such as Cover Image (available by default), Distributor, Current List Price, Subject, Page Count, Lower Age, Upper Age, and Languages.

To add new columns, simply click “Customize Columns” found at the top of the Quick Search table results.

This will open the Customize columns pop-up window, which you can use to add or remove columns as needed. Simply select, or deselect, the desired column and click “Apply changes”.

Like with other SalesData and LibraryData reports, you can save your column changes by clicking “Use columns below for My Defaults”. Selecting this option means that the next time you use Quick Search, you will automatically see those columns without needing to make any manual changes.

Column Sorting

We’ve also made some changes to the sorting logic in Quick Search, so that it’s more consistent with other reports in SalesData and LibraryData. Your quick search results will automatically be sorted in descending order by Current Week Units Sold. Clicking any of the column headers once will sort the table in either descending or ascending order by the values in that column, depending on the column. Clicking twice will sort the table in the opposite order by the values in that column. The column header by which the data is being sorted will change colour. An arrow next to the header will appear showing whether the data is in ascending (arrow pointing up) or descending (arrow pointing down) order.

Column Filters

You can now also use column filters to narrow your results down even further! Each column in Quick Search results - with the exception of Cover Image - now has a filter option. The filter type available differs depending on each column.

For example, use the text-based filters on the ISBN, Title, Subtitle, Series, Contributor, Publisher, or Distributor columns by typing in text to narrow down your results. You will see that your results have been narrowed down to include ISBNs that include that text in the corresponding bibliographic data.

You can use the CDN dropdown to find titles where the contributors have been marked as Canadian. Select “Yes” to filter results down to contributors marked as Canadian. Select “No” to filter results down to contributors NOT marked as Canadian. Select “All” to see all results.

To filter by Pub Date, simply select a start and/or end date from the available calendar picker.

To filter by Format or Subject, use the available dropdown menu to access the Format and Subject trees. Use the arrow icons beside the main headings to open the tree. The formats and subjects that are listed are limited to those that appear in your Quick Search results. To select an entire category, select the top-level subject or format. To select one or more individual format types or subjects, click the checkboxes beside the ones you want to see in the report.

You can use the available range sliders to filter based on ISBNs within a particular Current List Price, Page Count, Current Week Units Sold, or Lifetime Units Sold range. Simply drag the min and max selectors - dragging either one to the left will decrease the value while dragging either one to the right will increase the value. The displayed min and max indicators will update as you move the sliders.

Narrow down your results to titles within a particular age range by selecting from the Lower Age or Upper Age dropdown menus. The ages that are listed are limited to those that appear in your Quick Search results. To select one or more individual ages, click the checkboxes beside the ages you want to see in the report. To see all ages, select “Check All”.

And finally, you can limit your results to titles with a particular Language by selecting from the language dropdown menu. The languages that are listed are limited to those that appear in your Quick Search results. To select one or more individual languages, click the checkboxes beside the languages you want to see in the report. To see all languages, select “Check All”.

And that’s a lot of filters! In order to quickly remove any applied filters, we’ve also added a “Clear Filters” button at the top of your tabled results. Once clicked, your table will refresh with your original results and with no filters in place.

Run a Report with Search Results

We’ve also added the capability for you to use any ISBNs in your quick search results to run other SalesData or LibraryData reports - either a Bestseller and Multiple ISBN reports in SalesData or a Popular Books report in LibraryData.

To do so, simply select your ISBNs as needed from the newly-added ISBN selection column. To select all ISBNs, click the “select all” check box in the column header once. Clicking the “select all” check box a second time will deselect all ISBNs.

Alternatively, if you’d like to use individual ISBNs (rather than all ISBNs), you can click the check box for each ISBN as needed. You will notice that the “select all” check box updates so that it’s filled in with a horizontal line to indicate that some (but not all ISBNs) are selected.

Once your ISBNs have been selected, you will be able to select a report from the “Create a Report with selected ISBN(s)” dropdown menu button at the top of your results table.

  • To run a Bestseller report: Select “Create a Bestseller Report” from the dropdown menu and click “Run Report”

  • To run a Multiple ISBN report: Select “Create a Multiple ISBN Report” from the dropdown menu and click “Run Report”

  • To run a Popular Books report: Select “Create a Popular Books Report” from the dropdown menu and click “Run Report”

Once you’ve clicked “Run Report”, you will be taken to the Criteria page of your chosen report type. You will see your selected ISBNs appearing in the ISBN criteria filter.

Adjust your markets, reporting period, and other filter options as needed, then click “Run Report” to view your results!

Copy ISBNs from Search Results

You can also use your selected ISBNs to copy ISBNs to your clipboard! Once your ISBNs have been selected, simply click “Copy Selected ISBNs” at the top of your results table. Note that you will only be able to use the “Copy Selected ISBNs” button once your ISBNs have been selected - otherwise, it will remain greyed out.

Once you have successfully copied your ISBNs to your clipboard, you will see a confirmation message in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen that says: “ISBN(s) copied to clipboard”. From there, you can paste your ISBNs into another space, such as Excel.
