Printing Options

Need to create, modify, or cancel a print run? Or calculate unit costs of different print options to help develop your strategy? You're in the right place!

The Printing Options section displays printing information relevant to your current PubFight titles and any pending print runs:

  • title, ISBN, binding code, and list price bibliographic information (as displayed in SalesData when the data was imported at the start of the game); and
    • Trade league participants with access to SalesData may click on a title's linked ISBN to be directed to the SalesData Title/ISBN Report for that particular title.
  • the number of units On Hand, or currently in-stock.

You must enter a print run to populate the print option name, units, total cost, and delivery date columns:

    • print option name will display as the print status "pending" until the next batch of data is imported;

      • at that time, you will no longer be able to modify or cancel the print run (refer to the Participant Summary section on the "Home" page for this date)

    • total cost is calculated by the unit cost of the selected print run type multiplied by the number of units to be printed; and

    • delivery date will display as the week-ending date (the Sunday) of the week when your print run will be available to be recorded as sales — the print run will "arrive" on the date that the sales data for that week is imported.

To sort by any of the columns, click the title once for ascending order and twice for descending order.

Ordering a Print Run

To view your print options and to print for any of your titles, click on the "Print" button for the title in question. A window will pop up that will tell you the title you're about to order a print run for, how many units you currently have on hand and the title's binding type:

To select the kind of print job you wish to order, click on the drop-down box below "Print job type" to view your options. Choose the printing method (offset or digital) and quantity range that reflects the speed of delivery and the number of units you want:

After selecting the type from the drop-down list, you can enter the number of units you would like. Cost per unit, total cost resulting units, and delivery date will automatically populate. If you are happy with the results, click the "Print" button. You can also change the printing type and range and re-enter the quantity to experiment with different options and develop your strategy.

Digital: Titles printed digitally have smaller print runs, take only one week to print, but are more expensive than offset.

Digital quantityCost per unit
1-99$9.00
100-249$8.00
250-999$7.00

Offset: Titles printed this way have larger print runs and are more cost-effective than digital, but they take two weeks to print.

Offset quantityCost per unit
500-999$6.00
1,000-1,999$5.00
2,000-3,499$4.00
3,500-4,999$3.50
5,000-7,499$3.00
7,500-9,999$2.50
10,000-50,000$2.00

To close the screen without printing, click the "Close" button.

Modifying or Cancelling a Print Run

If you submit a print run, you will see a row appear automatically in the Printing Options table. Your print run will be status "Pending" until the next batch of data is imported. At that time, you will no longer be able to modify or cancel the print run (refer to the Participant Summary section on the "Home" page for this date).

To modify or cancel a print run, click on the "Pending" button for the title in question. A window will pop up that will provide the details of the print run you're about to edit. You may change the print run type or units and click the "Print" button to confirm the new print run details. Alternatively, you may cancel the job by clicking the "Cancel Job" button. Your print run will return to status "Pending" until the next batch of data is imported, after which you will no longer be able to modify or cancel the print run.

Printing History

Once a print run has the status "submitted" or "completed", it will be visible in the Printing History table. Separate print runs for the same title are shown in separate lines to show trending.

The Printing History section displays similar information about your PubFight titles from the Printing Options section:

  • title, ISBN, and binding code bibliographic information (as displayed in SalesData when the data was imported at the start of the game);
    • Trade league participants with access to SalesData may click on a title's linked ISBN to be directed to the SalesData Title/ISBN Report for that particular title
  • OH reflects the number of units of that title you had available when the print run was completed (calculated as units printed plus units in stock less the units sold in the most recent week's sales data import);

  • printing status:
    • Submitted: criteria has been selected, the print run has been entered and the deadline to cancel or change the print run has passed. Submitted print runs cannot be changed or cancelled

    • Completed: the allotted time has passed on a submitted print run and the units selected are now reflected in the On-hand number and will be sold

    • Note: all columns in the Printing History section are static with the exception of the Status column which will be automatically updated with each data import to display the current status of your print run

  • print option name represents the print status;

  • total cost is calculated by the unit cost of the selected print run type multiplied by the number of units printed; and
  • delivery date corresponds to the sales data import date that the print run was available to be recorded as sales (the last date of the week in question).

Note: submitted and completed print runs displayed in this section cannot be changed or cancelled.
